Optical Qualities

The State is an early collapsible normal lens with four elements in three groups, following the compact Tessar or Elmar-type layout used by several Japanese Leica-copy makers.

History

Introduced in 1946, the State engraving predates the Simlar and coated C Simlar sequence. Surviving nickel-finished examples represent one of Tokyo Optical's earliest standard lenses for Leotax cameras.

Handling

The collapsible barrel keeps the camera compact for transport. Minimum focus is approximately 3.5 ft, or 1.07 m, and the front accepts A36 clamp-on accessories.

Compatibility

This is a native Leica thread mount lens for coupled rangefinder use on Leotax and compatible LTM bodies. The collapsible tube should be checked for safe clearance before use on adapted digital cameras.
