Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 5, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Leica Lens List collects, uses, stores and shares personal data when you visit LeicaLensList.com, create an account or use its community and other interactive features.

“Personal data” means information that identifies you or can reasonably be linked to you. It may also be referred to as “personal information” in some countries.

1. Who is responsible for your data

Leica Lens List is operated by:

Elated. Software Development Trading as: Leica Lens List Chamber of Commerce / KvK number: 87157969 Country of establishment: The Netherlands Email: info@leicalenslist.com Contact: leicalenslist.com/contact

Elated. Software Development is the data controller for the personal data processed through LeicaLensList.com.

2. Scope of this policy

This policy applies when you:

  • visit LeicaLensList.com;
  • create or use an account;
  • post in the Lounge or leave comments;
  • report or search for stolen equipment;
  • submit shop details, corrections, images or other content;
  • contact Leica Lens List;
  • save preferences or request notifications;
  • click shop, affiliate or advertising links; or
  • interact with maps, videos and other embedded services.

Third-party shops, marketplaces and services have their own privacy policies and are responsible for their own processing.

3. Personal data we process

Account and authentication data

When you create or use an account, we may process:

  • your username;
  • your email address;
  • authentication credentials and security records;
  • login, session and password-reset information;
  • account preferences;
  • account creation and modification dates; and
  • technical information used to prevent unauthorised access.

You do not need an account to browse the public catalogue. An account is required for certain features, including posting content, reporting stolen gear and saving information.

Community content

When you use the Lounge, comments or other contribution features, we may process:

  • your username or public display name;
  • posts, comments, replies and reactions;
  • photographs and other uploaded files;
  • lens, camera and topic selections;
  • submission and modification dates;
  • moderation reports and actions; and
  • technical information used to detect spam or abuse.

Community contributions are normally public. Anything you publish may be read, copied, indexed or shared by other people and search engines.

Do not publish private contact details or personal information about another person unless you have a lawful reason and their permission where required.

Uploaded images may contain metadata, such as camera details, dates or location information. Remove metadata you do not want to share before uploading an image.

Stolen-gear reports and tips

If you submit a stolen-gear report, we may process and publish:

  • your username or selected public identity;
  • camera and lens information;
  • equipment serial numbers;
  • theft date and location;
  • descriptions and photographs;
  • report status;
  • comments, updates and recovery information; and
  • technical information used to verify reports and prevent abuse.

The stolen-gear registry is public by design. Serial numbers, theft locations and other report details can therefore be visible to other visitors and search engines.

Anonymous tips are not displayed with a public account identity. However, ordinary technical and security information may still be processed to deliver the tip and prevent misuse.

Do not include home addresses, sensitive personal information or unverified allegations about suspected individuals. Leica Lens List may edit, hide or remove information to protect individuals, prevent abuse or comply with the law.

Contact and support data

When you contact Leica Lens List, we may process:

  • your name or username;
  • your email address;
  • the contents of your message;
  • attachments you provide; and
  • information needed to investigate and answer your request.

Notifications and requested emails

If you request a password reset, price alert, account notification or another email-based service, we may process:

  • your email address;
  • the notification or item selected;
  • delivery and error information; and
  • your subscription, confirmation or cancellation status.

Account-security and requested service messages are not marketing messages. We only send optional promotional emails where we have an appropriate legal basis, including consent where required.

Technical, security and server data

When your browser or device connects to Leica Lens List, our systems may automatically receive:

  • IP address;
  • browser and device type;
  • operating system;
  • requested page or file;
  • date and time of the request;
  • referring page;
  • response and error information;
  • approximate location derived from network information; and
  • security events or suspected abusive activity.

This information is used to deliver the website, maintain performance, diagnose problems and protect the website, its users and its data.

Analytics and advertising measurement

Leica Lens List uses Matomo to understand aggregate website use and improve the service. Matomo operates without cookies in the current configuration. Analytics requests may still include technical information such as page URLs, device details and IP-related network information.

With your permission, Leica Lens List may load Google Ads measurement. This helps us understand whether our own advertising campaigns result in visits or actions on the website.

Google Ads measurement remains disabled unless you actively allow it through the cookie choice. Leica Lens List does not use Google Ads to display third-party advertising on its pages.

More information is available in our Cookies and Privacy Choices page.

Browser preferences and local storage

The website may use cookies or local browser storage to remember:

  • authentication sessions;
  • your currency preference;
  • your cookie choice;
  • light or dark theme;
  • lenses in your compare tray;
  • shops you have hidden; and
  • your progress or selections in Lens Match.

Our Cookies and Privacy Choices page explains these technologies and how to control them.

Affiliate and outbound shop links

Some links to shops and marketplaces are affiliate links. If you follow one, the destination and affiliate network may receive information such as:

  • the page or product linked from;
  • the date and time of the click;
  • referral parameters;
  • a pseudonymous click or conversion identifier;
  • device and network information; and
  • information about a resulting transaction.

Leica Lens List may receive conversion reports containing information such as the date, retailer, order value and commission. These reports do not normally include your payment-card details.

Leica Lens List does not determine how a third-party shop processes information after you leave the website. Review the shop’s privacy and cookie information before making a purchase.

Some affiliate relationships allow Leica Lens List to receive a commission at no additional cost to you. Affiliate arrangements do not determine how lenses, cameras, shops or prices are ranked.

Public shop and marketplace information

Leica Lens List collects product, price, availability and shop information from public retailer and marketplace pages.

Most of this is product or business information rather than personal data. Where public shop information identifies an individual, such as a sole trader or named business contact, it may be processed to maintain an accurate market reference and shop profile.

You can contact us if public information relating to you is inaccurate or should be reviewed.

You can request a review or removal of content you submitted. Some information may be retained where necessary to protect other users, preserve legitimate discussions, prevent fraud or meet legal obligations.

6. Who may receive personal data

Service providers acting on our behalf may process data only for the agreed services and under applicable data-protection obligations.

Some linked shops, marketplaces, map providers and media providers act as independent controllers. Their own privacy policies apply to their processing.

7. Sale and sharing of personal data

Leica Lens List does not sell personal data in exchange for money.

Optional advertising measurement may involve sending information to Google after you have given consent. Certain privacy laws may describe some advertising disclosures as “sharing”, even where no personal data is sold for money.

You can prevent this optional processing by rejecting Google Ads measurement or withdrawing your previous permission through the cookie controls.

8. International data transfers

Leica Lens List is operated from the Netherlands and primarily uses European infrastructure.

Some external providers, shops, affiliate networks or media services may process information outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States.

Where European data-protection law requires safeguards for an international transfer, we use or assess appropriate mechanisms made available for that transfer, such as:

  • an adequacy decision;
  • the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where applicable;
  • Standard Contractual Clauses; or
  • another legally recognised transfer mechanism.

You can contact us for more information about safeguards relevant to your personal data.

9. How long we keep personal data

We keep personal data only for as long as it is reasonably needed for the purpose for which it was collected, security, dispute resolution and legal obligations.

10. Cookies and consent

Necessary cookies and storage support authentication, security, preferences and remembering your privacy choice.

Optional Google Ads measurement is not enabled until you actively allow it. You can reject optional processing without losing access to the public website.

You can change or withdraw your choice at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal.

See Cookies and Privacy Choices for the complete cookie and browser-storage information.

11. How we protect personal data

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures intended to protect personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, loss, misuse or disclosure.

These measures include, where appropriate:

  • encrypted connections;
  • access restrictions;
  • authentication controls;
  • software and security updates;
  • backups;
  • logging and abuse prevention; and
  • limiting access to people who need it for their work.

No internet service can guarantee absolute security. Please use a unique password and notify us if you believe your account or personal data has been compromised.

12. Your privacy rights

Depending on the law that applies to you, you may have the right to:

You can exercise these rights by emailing info@leicalenslist.com or using the contact form.

We may request information necessary to confirm your identity and protect accounts or personal data from unauthorised requests.

Where the GDPR applies, we normally respond within one month. This period may be extended where permitted for a complex request, in which case we will explain the delay.

Privacy requests are normally handled without charge. Applicable law may allow a reasonable fee or refusal where a request is manifestly unfounded, excessive or repetitive.

Some rights are subject to exceptions. For example, we may retain information needed for legal obligations, fraud prevention, freedom of expression or legal claims.

13. Account and content deletion

You can delete your account using any deletion controls made available through the website or by contacting us.

Account deletion may remove or anonymise account information. Public contributions do not necessarily disappear automatically when an account is deleted, particularly where they form part of a discussion or public registry.

If you also want specific posts, comments, images or stolen-gear reports reviewed for deletion, identify them in your request.

14. Children

Leica Lens List is a specialist photography website and is not designed for children.

We do not knowingly collect personal data from children who cannot legally provide their own consent under applicable law. If you believe a child has provided personal data without the required permission, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

15. Automated decisions and recommendations

Lens Match, search, sorting and price features can produce recommendations or rankings based on selected criteria and available website data.

Leica Lens List does not use automated decision-making that produces legal effects or similarly significant effects concerning individuals.

16. External websites

Leica Lens List links to shops, marketplaces, manufacturers, reference sources and other third-party websites.

We are not responsible for how those websites collect or use personal data. Review the privacy and cookie information of the destination before providing personal information or making a purchase.

17. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the website, its providers or legal requirements change.

The revised policy will be published with an updated date. If a change materially affects how personal data is used, we will provide additional notice where appropriate.

If new consent is required, we will ask for it before beginning the relevant processing. Continuing to browse the website is not treated as consent to optional cookies, advertising measurement or a new processing purpose.
