History

Hugo Meyer produced the Weitwinkel Doppel Anastigmat in several camera mounts. The original M39 example documented by Leitz Photographica Auction dates to around 1935 and is a distinct factory screw-mount version rather than a later conversion.

Handling

The lens is focused by scale because it does not operate the camera rangefinder. Its 40mm angle of view is best framed with a suitable 40mm or adjustable accessory finder, especially on screw-mount bodies without built-in wide-angle frames.

Compatibility

This profile covers the original Leica thread mount version, also known as LTM or M39. It mounts directly on compatible screw-mount cameras and can be adapted to Leica M, but rangefinder coupling is not provided.
