Meyer-Optik Gorlitz Tele-Megor 250mm f/5.5

The Tele-Megor 250mm f/5.5 is a long telephoto offered in an original Leica screw-mount focusing barrel. The documented factory M39 version is rangefinder coupled, an unusual feature at this focal length.

Optical Qualities

The Tele-Megor family uses a four-element, two-group telephoto arrangement. At 250mm the lens gives a very narrow field of view, while the f/5.5 aperture balances size and reach. Aperture-blade counts and close-focus specifications vary across surviving versions, so they are not generalized here.

History

Meyer introduced the Tele-Megor line before the Second World War and offered the 25cm f/5.5 in several mounts. The original coupled M39 configuration is exceptionally uncommon and should not be confused with later conversions or more familiar Exakta and M42 examples.

Handling

The dedicated barrel couples to the camera rangefinder, but a 250mm or adjustable accessory finder is still required for composition. The long lens benefits from firm support, careful rangefinder calibration and a hood to preserve contrast.

Compatibility

The documented version uses the Leica thread mount, also known as LTM or M39, with rangefinder coupling. It mounts directly on compatible screw-mount cameras and can be adapted to Leica M bodies.
