The Tele-Megor 180mm f/5.5 is a long prewar telephoto in an original Leica screw-mount focusing barrel. A documented 1934 example is mechanically coupled to the camera rangefinder.

Optical Qualities

The 180mm focal length gives a narrow field of view while the modest f/5.5 maximum aperture keeps the optical head comparatively compact. A verified element and group count for this exact M39 version has not been entered. As with other uncoated prewar telephotos, contrast depends heavily on optical cleanliness and effective shading.

History

Meyer produced Tele-Megor lenses in several focal lengths and camera mounts. The 18cm Leica M39 version documented by Leitz Photographica Auction dates to 1934 and is distinct from the better-known 15cm and 25cm variants.

Handling

The dedicated focusing barrel provides rangefinder coupling despite the long focal length. A stable grip or support is helpful, and precise framing requires an 180mm or adjustable accessory finder. The original hood is useful for protecting contrast.

Compatibility

The documented factory version uses the Leica thread mount, also known as LTM or M39, and is rangefinder coupled. It mounts directly on compatible screw-mount cameras and can be adapted to Leica M bodies.
