About this lens

Light Lens Lab announced the 35mm f/2 APO, also written as 35/2AA, on 1 August 2026. It is their answer to the Leica APO-Summicron-M 35mm f/2 ASPH: a new apochromatic design with two aspherical elements rather than a copy of the Leica formula, aiming for the same clinical rendering and the same 0.3 m close focus.

International availability

The lens is not on lightlenslab.com yet and international pricing has not been announced. When it appears there, coupon code LEICALENSLIST takes 5% off, the same as the rest of their lineup: it works storewide, no minimum order, no expiry date. Until then, set a price watch on this page and you get an email the moment it can be ordered!

Early technical notes

The published MTF curves are strong: at f/2 the 5, 10 and 20 lp/mm lines stay above 0.8 across most of the frame, and by f/5.6 the whole set flattens near the top of the chart. Distortion stays under about 1% and the astigmatism plot is tight. Light Lens Lab notes the lens covers 44x33 medium format like the original, with some vignetting close up and small dark corners at infinity.

Testing

Leica Lens List will try to request/buy this lens for testing, as it's a hugely anticipated release. We'll be offering you the coupon code but we can't vouch for the quality yet; but we've tested Light Lens Lab lenses before and we have had great experiences so far.
