Tanack 35F
The Tanack 35F is the generic LeicaLensList profile for the mechanically identical Tanack IIF and IIIF bodies. IIF originally identified the outfit with a Tanar 50 mm f/3.5, while IIIF identified the package supplied with a Tanar 50 mm f/2.8 [1][2].
Compared with the 35C, the 35F adds a front slow-speed dial covering T and 1 second through 1/20 second. It retains the cloth focal-plane shutter, separate viewfinder and coupled rangefinder, hinged back and single FP synchronization contact [1].
History
Development and Launch
The IIF and IIIF outfits were introduced in March 1954 after preparation had begun during 1952. The bodies were produced alongside the simpler C versions rather than replacing them immediately [1][2][3].
Production Evolution
Observed 35F serial groups run from 27819 to 28973 and from 54591 to 54993. Finder-housing details changed from a stepped early form to a rounded later form. The overlapping C and F observations are collector data, not a factory register [1].
Special Variants
IIF and IIIF are treated as outfit aliases within one Standard model entry because the standard lens, not the body specification, determined the Roman-numeral sales name [1].
Collector Notes
Confirm the front slow-speed dial, single FP contact, hinged back and closely spaced eyepieces. The body is normally engraved only Tanack, so the attached lens alone should not be used to establish originality or model identity [1][4].
