Chiyoca IIF
The Chiyoca IIF is a Japanese LTM camera manufactured by Reise for Chiyoda Shokai. It advances the earlier Chiyoca 35 and IF by adding a coupled rangefinder while retaining a separate optical viewfinder, cloth focal-plane shutter and Leica-style 39 mm screw mount [1][2].
Unlike the later Chiyotax IIF, the Chiyoca IIF has no slow-speed mechanism. Its shutter range begins around 1/20 second, and early and later examples differ in synchronization hardware [1].
History
Development and Launch
Dating is disputed. Sources place introduction between 1952 and early 1954, with December 1953 or January 1954 supported by Japanese collector literature. LeicaLensList uses 1953 as the conservative nominal release year [1][3].
Production Evolution
Early bodies use two front synchronization posts, while later examples combine these into a single German-style connector. Top-plate lettering, covering and strap-lug details also vary [1][3].
Special Variants
The synchronization changes are production variants under one Standard model profile. They are not separate editions.
Collector Notes
Do not confuse the Chiyoca IIF with the Chiyotax IIF. The Chiyotax-branded successor adds slow speeds, while the Chiyoca version lacks a slow-speed dial. Re-engravings and incorrectly labeled dealer listings require careful inspection [1][2].
