Minolta 35 Model E
The Minolta 35 Model E is the first member of the series to carry an official model designation on the camera. It combines an LTM mount, hinged back, self timer, 0.7x combined rangefinder/viewfinder and cloth shutter reaching 1/500 second [1].
Model E adds eyepiece dioptre adjustment and replaces the earlier proprietary shoe contact with a rear synchronization socket. Period instructions discuss flashbulbs but do not establish an electronic X-sync speed [1].
History
Development and Launch
The model is generally dated to late 1951, with period advertising continuing into 1952. It followed the collector-classified Model D [1].
Production Evolution
Observed serials run approximately from 1518x to 1752x. Contemporary literature conflicts between nominal 24 x 34 mm and 24 x 34.5 mm frame dimensions, so 24 x 34 mm is the conservative database value [1].
Special Variants
Minor frame-gate and production differences are not separate editions. Model E remains a Standard model.
Collector Notes
Look for the engraved model name at the upper-right front, rotating eyepiece dioptre adjustment and rear non-PC sync socket. Do not confuse it with the very similar Model F, which uses a different connector and revised self-timer markings.
