Minolta 35 Model D
The Minolta 35 Model D is a collector-defined 1949 LTM rangefinder. It retains the combined 0.7x finder, self timer, hinged back and cloth shutter to 1/500 second while adding strap lugs and revised rewind-release controls [1].
Type a uses an approximately 24 x 33 mm image gate. The much less frequently documented type b increases the width to approximately 34 mm [1].
History
Development and Launch
Model D followed the 1948 Model C and remained officially marketed as Minolta 35. Its letter designation was applied retrospectively by collectors [1].
Production Evolution
Observed type a serials span approximately 910x to 1059x. Only one type b example around 1134x is documented in the cited database, despite historical production claims suggesting a larger batch [1].

The two gate sizes define production types, not editions. Both belong under one Model D Standard model profile.
Collector Notes
Strap lugs, a rewind release beneath the counter and the front depression below the lens distinguish Model D from Model C. Verify gate width before assigning type a or b.
