Contax I
The Contax I is a 35mm interchangeable-lens rangefinder introduced by Zeiss Ikon in 1932. It was designed as a direct competitor to the Leica system, using a rapid bayonet lens mount, removable back, long-base coupled rangefinder and vertically travelling metal focal-plane shutter [1]. Early cameras provide speeds from 1/25 second to 1/1000 second plus Bulb. Slow speeds extending to 1/2 second were added during production [1]. The standard lens focusing helical is built into the body, while longer and wider lenses use their own focusing mounts.

Development and Launch
Zeiss Ikon launched the original Contax in 1932, the same year as the rangefinder-equipped Leica II. Its removable back, quick bayonet mount and long rangefinder base reflected Zeiss Ikon's attempt to create a technically advanced professional 35mm system [1].
