Light Lens Lab Announces 50mm f/1.9 “Rigid‑ZS6” for Leica M
Light Lens Lab has officially announced the upcoming Light Lens Lab 50mm f/1.9 “Rigid‑ZS6”, a new Leica M‑mount lens inspired by the legendary Super‑Six optical design. This release also marks a further step forward in the brand’s expanding Rigid Series, which combines historically significant optics with a standardized, field‑tested mechanical platform.
Classic Super‑Six Rendering, Updated for Digital
The Rigid‑ZS6 is based on a classic double‑Gauss optical formula, preserving the vintage rendering characteristics the Super‑Six is known for. Expect smooth bokeh, classic colour response, and a clearly film‑like look. At the same time, the optical design has been refined to better suit modern digital sensors, improving centre performance while maintaining the lens’s character.
Two Versions Available
In response to photographer feedback, Light Lens Lab will offer two rendering options:
- Standard version with balanced contrast
- Low Contrast (“*”) version, designed for smoother tonal transitions and greater highlight retention, ideal for a more analog look on digital cameras
Build and Handling
Mechanically, the lens uses the proven Rigid construction. It features a brass outer barrel, smooth manual focus, preset aperture with half‑stop clicks, and full in‑house manufacturing. The lens supports E39 filters, weighs approximately 263g, and focuses down to 0.7m.
